Some of you may be wondering why a dachshund popped up in the designs this week. This whole thing is about mental health isn’t it? Is a dachshund really relevant?
The short answer is most definitely yes, but in a round about sort of way. As many of you know (or are about to) Jay and I have 2 dachshunds that pretty much rule the house. They take up all the bed, follow us around like shadows and like to take their fair share of every meal.
There’s a Little More to it, Bear With me
As all animal owners know, our pets provide a lot more than a just an extra number in the household. They provide something to look forward to after a long stressful day at work, ready to give their undivided love and affection when you walk in the door. They sense when you are down and make an extra effort to be cuddly (well at least that’s what our boys do). They see you through the dark times and for some they are the one thing that keeps you going (Jay can vouch for that). Most importantly they have been shown to help relieve symptoms of anxiety and depression! Here is a link to some of the ways having a pet can help your mental health.
The design was a tribute to two of our little mental health warriors at home, who see us through not only the good times, but the bad as well.
